STROUD FRINGE 2017 07 FRINGE FAVES
LOW BLURT
CHIMES
Well, we have to start with Stroud’s own alt-folk out t,
Low Chimes. Formerly known as Hot Feet, these local favourites
are now being tipped for great things by the likes of Elbow’s Guy Garvey and 6Music’s Marc Riley. The rst single from their album, ‘Sleepwalking’, earned them a BBC 6Music Live Session on Lauren Laverne’s show. Already regulars on the festival circuit, they’ve appeared at Glastonbury and Green Man and we’re delighted
to welcome them back to Stroud Fringe...

BABOO
SweetBaSbUPoERMoARiKsET Stephen Black, a native of the
North Wales countryside and idiosyncratic singer with an ear for a sparkling melody. By turns darkly funny and piercingly tender, his third album I'm a Dancer/Songs about Sleepin' was nominated for the inaugural Welsh Music Prize in 2011. Since then Black has worked with Cate Le Bon, Slow Club and
H. Hawkline, touring across the UK and North America. “Beautifully judged psych-pop that hums with warmth, quiet eccentricity and gentle wryness, recalling Robert Wyatt, 60s French pop and Gruff Rhys’s solo fare” – Uncut
Led by the inimitable Ted Milton, poet, saxophonist
and sometime puppeteer, back
in the late-1970s Blurt were an early signing to Manchester’s Factory Records. Since then, they’ve evolved into one of the UK alternative scene’s most enduringly entertaining live acts, colliding jazz, punk and deviant wordplay in a style once dubbed by the NME “all-purpose chaos”.
